Small Change...BIG Impact...

I am a firm believer that a small change in a home can lead to a BIG impact.  When redoing areas of our home, I look for things that I think will make the most difference and give us the most "bang for our buck"....like....a light fixture!

The entry of our home is rather small so I wanted to change something in this area that would really make a difference to the feel of our home when you walk in.  Instead of looking around, I decided to look up...up to the contractor grade light fixture hanging from the ceiling.

When we looked at this house, I knew there were some contractor grade fixtures that would be changed...primarily the light fixtures.  While there is absolutely nothing wrong with these light fixtures, I wanted something that would make more of a personal statement about us and our home.  I believe that light fixtures give our home a little extra personality.

Over the weekend, I found this light at a local lighting store.

I knew immediately it was the one for me.  You know, that love at first sight deal!

The hubster quickly installed this beautiful light for me (bad cell phone pic, but cute hubster).  It didn't take him long at all and you do not have to be an electrician to change out a light fixture.  You just have to be safe...as in, turn off the circuit breaker, do your best to keep your wife from squealing while you are on the ladder and don't let her shake the ladder hold the ladder steady for you.

Our entry now has a totally different feel and totally different look!

Small change, BIG impact!!

We've slowly been changing almost every light in our house. The original ones could not have been any uglier!

    1. Thank you! I fell in love with it when I saw it a few weeks ago…I knew it would look wonderful in the entry.

Light fixtures are something that really do make a difference. I am on a campaign to change out as many as I can. We have already changed the half bath light fixture our the light fixture in our bath. I’m looking for a new chandy for the dining area and will changing lights out in the guest bedrooms as well. Hugs!!

    1. The problem with the jawline is the adverse effect it has on my waistline the more I use it. Benita helps by pointing out the sign of a great husband is not opening the mouth at all, so...

  11. Benita,
The new light is definitely more your style and does make a big impact in the entry. I would love to change the fixture in my entry, but cannot find one I like that fits an 8-ft ceiling height.

    1. Thank you so much Judith! I do love this light and it has made such a big difference in the entry. I know what you mean...you normally have to get the ones that hug the ceiling and it seems that they have stopped make anything cute for a normal ceiling height.

  12. I really feel the same way you do. It wasn't until my little interior designer daughter taught me to look at detail that I really started to look at light fixtures and now I truly know what an impact they make. This is absolutely fantastic!!! I really think you have a great eye for true style.

  13. Very pretty!! I love the shape and style. We have a lot of original fixtures in our home from the 1920's. I have not changed those out...a few others needed to go though. They were funky upgrades from the 60's. Yikes!!

    1. Thank you so much! 1920’s fixtures…awesome! 1960’s fixtures…not so much…unless they are really funky. But of course, those look best in a mid-century modern house and not so much in a beautiful 1920’s cottage-style home.

  15. Benita, that light fixture is amazing and something I would have picked myself! Love it! And I totally agree with you about the light fixtures, especially there when you first walk in - it will be one of the first things that someone sees and loves! I have that deer pallet art too - ha ha, we would be quite the pair shopping together! Twin shopping carts! ;)
Hey - No one mentioned that amazing plaid shirt that the hubster is wearing! That would make an awesome pillow...I think that should be your next diy! ;)
