Breaking TN....

I am the #1 Craft-Challenged Blogger in the Universe.  I've proven it time and time again.  I wear this banner proudly and am the President of the Craft-Challenged Bloggers Support Group (CCBSG, if you will).   If you don't believe me, go back and read The Stool Pigeon post, the Glutton post or The World is Imperfect post.  These posts are the exhibits I present to defend my position.  I have a "Nailed It" Pinterest board so that my failures can be passed around.  If you've got something worse, bring it on sister!

Unlike yesterday, you don't have to comment on prior posts (unless you want to share a comical comment). That was a post so that I could give you something for free (be sure you have entered, if not, click here to do so).  Fortunately, today, I'm also giving you something for free....my expertise on a project.  Stop laughing....pick yourself up off the floor and stop laughing.  Have a little faith people!

The something I have to show you today was not an epic failure!  I did it all by myself and didn't have to ask the 4-year-old next door to help me.  Nor did I make him cry when I showed it to him.  Hey, I had to get his approval so that I could share it with you!

Since I've not done very well trying to create my own craft projects, I decided to give it a go with a "hack".  I found this item at World Market for several different states and thought they were just the coolest thing....a Periodic Chart for a state or city.  World Market calls it "Breaking (insert city or state) Wall Art".  Unfortunately, they are always priced way above my budget....so I decided to break it (get it, "Breaking" Wall Art....again, a tough room). Moving on...

This is their version....

This is my version....

This was the only frame and mat I had on hand, but I will get a mat with a black inset later this week.

If you can use these 2 items...a computer...

...and a printer...

....then you too can make this little piece of wall art.

I chose Tennessee because that is where we are currently living.  You can use any city or state in the US or you can choose another country...there is no right or wrong to this project.  I Googled some facts about Tennessee and used that information to complete the Periodic Chart.  Again, you can use any information you want, make it all up or have "just the facts".  It doesn't matter.  It doesn't even have to be in black ink.  You can have purple polka dots with a magenta frame if you so desire.  The sky really is the limit with this project.

The best part is that I didn't screw it up and the only cost was 1 sheet of paper...well, actually 2 sheets.  I'm OCD and wanted it symmetrical!  While I may have absolutely no crafting skills, I've got the computer skills in the bag!  ;-)

    1. Thank you so much! It's a great hack and there was no way I was going to pay what they were asking....much, much cheaper to make it myself! You know, you could probably make one using her name and have all of the details indicating how much she weighed, birthdate, birthstone, etc. or some other fun facts about her! :-)

  16. Very cool! Think of the money you could have saved TN taxpayers if you had done the new TN logo for us instead of what taxpayers were charged for the work done!

I would have loved to have been at least once to NY, my son lived there for several years right in the East Side, paying an arm and 2 legs for an apartment about the size of my bedroom. He loved it.

  23. I like this a lot. It might be fun make one for each state for those of us who have lived in several states. One change I will make ( sorry I am wearing my science teacher hat now) is to make the second letter lower case. That is the way it is on the real periodic table of elements and on the Breaking Bad show.

    1. I've lived in a few different states also and thought about making one for each state. You know, I've never seen the Breaking Bad show, so I'm not sure what their props look like....lol...guess I need to Google it. I've just seen these at World Market. The "n" is actually lower case, it just doesn't look like it because of the font I used. When I make it again, I will be using a different font so that it looks lower case like it is supposed to be. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting! I hope you will visit again! :-)
